When you first start your study of MEDancing, you think only of the dance, then the costumes and then…comes all the rest. One thing leads to another and before long it becomes a life-long study. The Mid-East covers a lot of territory and has a lot of diversity.

The purpose of my site is not to be an encyclopedia of MEDancing but an information source on myself and my classes as well as an aid to help direct you to sites that have extensive MEDance  information.  As I said in my links page, there are others who are vastly more qualified than me and have the sites to prove it…I encourage you to visit their sites to start your in-depth education.

In the meantime, the following info is to answer some of the FAQ's that keep coming up in class. These are the bare bones and should give you a good base to start from. I get no compensation from listing any site or video, music, etc. Those listed are some of my personal favorites as well as names that turn up again and again in surveys.  The music lists are good old standards that withstand the test of time.

What to wear to class?  What is needed for class?
Treat belly dance like any other dance class or aerobics class. Leotards and tights are always good, yogo pants & tops, but loose comfortable clothing will work as well. Regular street clothes are not recommended. Bare feet are best or light slippers (ballet, gymnastics, etc). Socks can be used if the floor surface is appropriate. Street shoes are not recommended.

Continuing students may find that a hip belt or basic skirt may help 'feel' this dance but this is optional.

Any props that are used in class will be supplied for class use by the instructor and/or supply sources will be provided as necessary.

What can I do with this dance?
London is blessed with several classes, teachers and various levels of instruction. Students who wish to continue their study of this dance have a variety of times and classes to choose from. We also have a dance guild, The OASIS, which tries to provide dance opportunities for the students in this City. Most dance instructors are aware of this organization and can provide information on upcoming recitals and shows or other dance related events. Ask your instructor if s/he is associated with THE OASIS Guild.
